Transformational Book Series – Our Picks | You Can Be Happy No Matter What

In January we kicked off a new MBB series to highlight transformational books for women called Transformational Book Series – Our Picks. This month we’re excited to continue the series by sharing with you our next transformational book in the series – You Can Be Happy No Matter What by Richard Carlson, PhD.

My Blooming Biz Book Picks - You Can Be Happy No Matter What by Dr. Richard CarlsonWe are adding this book to our series because we truly believe that it can help women lead a happier, more fulfilling life. Yes, the title may sound a bit cliche, but if you apply the principles in this book, you can change your mindset and your life. Women often allow daily happenings in their life to take a hold of their attention, focus and time, and soon realize that they are giving the best of themselves, but are unhappy and unfulfilled in the process. Many also try to justify why what they are doing is justified, and their feelings is the culprit when in reality that’s not always the case. One of our favorite lines from Dr. Carlson’s book that we use here at MBB is, “Your thoughts, not your circumstances, determine how you feel. An absence of negative thought brings forth a positive feeling.” That is so absolutely true!

Many of the insights in the book are things we all intrinsically know but maybe don’t consciously think of or apply to our lives consistently. If you are someone who struggles with negative thinking, ruminating over made up scenarios in your mind, or even real past events, or are prone to moodiness, this book will be especially helpful to you. Dr. Carlson dissolves some of the illusions that cause our suffering; our external circumstances often appear to be the cause of our suffering or happiness, but closer examination reveals that it is our thoughts that most affect our well-being. However, thoughts are not the same as reality. Just because we think something, doesn’t make it true. Yet all too often we give our thoughts too much credit and allow them to dictate how we feel. Dr. Carlson explores this relationship between thoughts, feelings, and reality and reveals the alternatives using the five things on which his principle for his book is based.

Dr. Richard Carlson’s 5 Things on Which His Principles for His Book “You Can Be Happy No Matter What” is Based:

1. Thoughts
2. Moods
3. Separate Realities
4. Feelings
5. Present Moment

He explores each principle and expounds on applying them into your everyday life and how they can work for everyone. Yes, most of what he has written is common sense, and most people already know what the 5 things above are to a lesser degree, but what you didn’t know, Dr. Carlson fills in the blanks of how & why they affect your overall mental health and what you can do about it. By reading each principle and corresponding application of the principle, you will absolutely have a crystal clear way of understanding how your moods & feelings work for and against you, and NOT becoming overburdened by some of life’s many pitfalls.

Dr. Carlson’s message supports the idea that if you want to change your life, you must begin by changing yourself. Some of the best books to read to change your life are quite challenging and deal with abstract spiritual concepts, but this book is very easy to read. The ideas are presented with down-to-earth everyday examples that most people can understand and relate to.

Help! Social Media Is Killing Me – Keeping Up With The Joneses (and the Kardashians)

Lately we’ve been getting more and more letters from young women all around the globe, with one common thread – “social media is killing me”. And although we usually do not discuss everything that women are experiencing and shares with us, we decided to touch on this because of the vast amount of letters we’ve been receiving from women of all ages, but especially young women, and the effect it is having on them believing in themselves and focusing on their own efforts to realize their own goals and dreams.

And the first thing we want to emphasize is that Social Media is a thing; it is a tool to be used, and like any other tool you must know what you are using it for and be intentional. And, if it is not serving that specific purpose, then you need to let it go! Don’t just use it for use sake! Have a purpose for using it, and be intentional! It is all in your hands to do what you want with it!

Yes, your peers are using it, and they are sharing tons of beautiful photos about their wonderful lifestyle and this sets you up to question yourself and doubt yourself, and even belittle yourself and your value. While some of the stories are true and real, some of them are not as they appear. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “not everything that glitter is gold” and for the ones that are true and real, we do not always get to see the behind the scenes work that are put in to get to the place they are at NOW. Unfortunately, we only see the end results.

We are living in a competitive world and Social Media is competitive. We cannot change that! But what we can do is use everything around us – including social media to work for us. How do we do that? We first focus our attention on what we want for ourselves, actualize that design, create the plan to accomplish that, then move with intention using everything available within our path to bring us closer to achieving it – with self-discipline and self-control.

We here at My Blooming Biz encourage you to take back your life, your time, your mind. Create a design for the lifestyle you want to live, and focus your attention on getting to that way of living. Break down your method of getting there in small, workable pieces, and reach them one step at a time. This is the most fulfilling thing anyone can do for their life, and well-being.

If you find yourself having too much time on your hands to be endlessly surfing social media, or you are feeling unworthy or worthless, take some time out and deviate – turning your attention to other things that can build you. Some uplifting things you can do are:

1. Volunteer at your local community in an area of interest to you. If you’re a dog lover, you may want to attend to animals at a shelter, or seek out elders who have dogs in your community and volunteer to walk the dogs for them. You may also decide to step out of your comfort zone and go volunteer at a homeless shelter. You could sign up with your Recreational & Parks in your neighborhood to help tend the space, or you can volunteer at a school. You can check your local community for volunteer options, or do a simple search on Google “Places I can volunteer at (insert city or State)”. Or you can be more specific and search “I want to volunteer as a “…” in (State/City/Country). You could also use something you do very well such as graphic designing and reach out to volunteer at non profit organizations that may need to have that done but not enough resource to pay for it. I have done a lot of volunteering and I can tell you it’s so very rewarding. I always start out trying to help others, and end up being helped in so many ways. This is definitely what Stephen R. Covey in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People calls #WinWin.

2. Get our Lifestyle Designing WorkBook and spend some time designing the kind of life you desire to live – in 8 key areas, and get to bringing it to fruition. The ultimate fulfillment is designing and actually living the life YOU desire. The life you take time out to design – for YOU. Not the way your mom wants it, not the way your dad wants it, not the way your friends want it, and definitely not the way society wants it. You design your life your way from the very basics to the more advanced way you want to experience life. It may take some time to get to living exactly the way you want, but you can start now by taking small steps and being consistent and resilient until you get there – celebrating each milestone, and enjoying every moment along the way.

3. Get a hold of books that have the potential to transform your life, and use your time to read and implement their strategies and tips. The knowledge that are hidden on pages of so many books are waiting for you to harness and use to improve your life. When you read you learn, you gain experiences, and that knowledge helps to equip you to have a better overall life experience. Life throws darts at us! And my darts may not be your darts, and the way I solve my dart situations may not be the way you solve yours. And so when we share our stories through books, we have the opportunity to learn from each other, and use that imparted knowledge to improve each others’ lives. Here are some of the transformational books that we recommend and use here at My Blooming Biz International.

So stop allowing social media to use you and consume your most valuable resource – time! Use social media to bring you closer to your vision of living life on your terms, by making it work for YOU, not against you.

Keeping up with the Joneses (and the Kardashians) may require you to live an inauthentic life, and being inauthentic is strenuous and draining. What’s the point in being happy, beautiful, and prosperous online and being totally opposite in real life – offline?

You are beautiful and wonderfully made and you have the power to create and live your life just the way you want to. Don’t wait another minute feeding into others crave for attention while killing your dream and crushing your soul. Focus YOUR time on YOU! Do something that adds value to your life everyday, and makes you feel happy and fulfilled. It is human to be loved and valued, but we must first love and value ourselves. And the best way to do that is to use your most valuable resource – time, to empower yourself.

Love & Light,

Transformational Book series – Our Picks | The Power of Now

In January we kicked off a new MBB series to highlight transformational books for women called, Transformational Book Series – Our Picks. This month we’re excited to continue the series by sharing with you our next transformational book in the series – The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.

My Blooming Biz Book Picks - The Power of Now by Eckhart TolleWe are all about women empowerment here at My Blooming Biz, and we know that however equipped we are to help you empower yourself, there are tons of other resources available out there than can aid in your self empowerment. And what better place to look, than books. As our CEO and Empowerment Coach often say, “Books are collective reservoirs of minds; they will edify you, enlighten you, inspire you, energize you, or just plain amuse you…but you have to seek them out, open, and read them.” These books in our transformational series have the potential to change your life!

Eckhart Tolle, in his book The Power of Now, explores how we create our own suffering by not living in the now and resisting the present moment. This powerful book delves deep into how our thoughts often control us and block us from experiencing life. Our ability to wake up to the present is vital for our well being. For some people, this awakening to the NOW can take place suddenly, but most people have to train their minds over time to learn how to live in the present moment.

Tolle begins by introducing readers to enlightenment and its natural enemy – the mind, and awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain essentially showing them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. Along the way, he shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being – “the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death.”

Some of you who read this book will never be the same again, as it has the potential to shatter your reality and show you a world that is fresh, vivid, and alive. Things you’ve seen hundreds of time, may take on new meaning. Others may never make it through the first few pages. It may not be their time. As one of our client Marlyne wrote in a letter to us:

This book has changed my life. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get in touch with his or her inner self and live a more peaceful life. Every time I read this book, and I have read it several times, I learn something else about myself. You can recommend this book to others, but they have to be ready for it. My sister tried to introduce me to Eckhart Tolle last year, but I wasn’t ready for him so I didn’t bother to purchase his books. I have learned that when it’s time for something to change in your life, you will know it. Later when I read about his book “The Power of Now” in your newsletter, I knew I was ready! I LOVE this book! I have practiced meditation for many years, meditating twice a day. Now I can meditate anytime and that’s a wonderful feeling knowing that I don’t have to wait for a specific time to be at peace. I walk through the park now and I actually hear the birds or the other sounds around me. That’s a WOW for me! I accept others more and am aware of when I am judging them or other things around me. More and more I am in control of my thinking and that’s powerful. All of this came about as a result of reading this book. Buy this book and you will understand what I am saying; that is, if you are ready for change in your life. Powerful book!

To give yourself the best chance at absorbing the wisdom in this potentially life-changing book, be prepared to handle a good dose of new age words, such as Being. It can be difficult to write about spiritual subjects and still please all readers with the choice of vocabulary so if you’re not into new-agey sounding stuff, ask your inner critic to step aside temporarily so that you can receive Tolle’s message: It’s only after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from Mind and intensely in the NOW, is there Enlightenment.

So in a nutshell what Tolle is saying is, accept your life situation as it is. Change what you can and accept what you can’t or aren’t willing to change at the moment. Focus on what you are experiencing at this very moment (your surroundings, your body, your existence). Don’t judge, just be aware. Be aware of your mind and when it drifts to the past or the future, and take it back to the present. Let go of the past, because holding onto it cannot change it. Focus instead on what you are doing and can do right now. Try not to dwell on the future and worry about endless future scenarios that haven’t happened and can’t be predicted. The past doesn’t exist anymore, the future doesn’t exist – the only thing that exists is NOW. So be in the now!

At My Blooming Biz, we are about helping women live happier, healthier, more productive lives, and in order to help women be better we provide tools and direction to added resources that are available to help them live to their highest degree. Why? Because when women are empowered the world becomes a better place. Learn how to live in the present moment instead of allowing your thoughts to wander to the past or the future, and you will immediately understand that living in the NOW is one of the most powerful methods for transforming your reality and improving your life.

Empower yourself! Get this book The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment, read it, and implement its strategies into your life.

Ego: Temper This Controller and Experience More Peace, Joy, Freedom – A Better More Fulfilling Life

EGO - Rid Yourself of This Controller and Experience More Peace, Joy, and Fulfillment

The ego is one of the biggest culprit that robs us of experiencing real joy, peace, and fulfillment. It gets in the way of every facet of our life, and is the number one reason for breakup of marriages, family ties, and even business relationships. This ego has to be tempered or it will continue to wreak havoc in our lives.

What is Ego?

The Psychological Definition of Ego:

If you’ve done any study in Psychology, you know that Ego is seen and defined in a more complicated, entailed way and not the usual simple definition of ego. According to Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, there are three parts to the personality: the ego, the id, and the superego. The ego is the psychological component of the personality that is represented by our conscious decision-making process. The id is the instinctual, biological component, and the superego is the social component of our personality and conscience, and our behavior is determined by the interaction of all three components. We experience three levels of consciousness: unconsciousness – outside of our awareness at all times; pre-consciousness – knowledge and memories we can retrieve; and consciousness – our current awareness.

The Simple Definition of Ego

For our purpose today, we will be using the Simple definition of ego which is: a person’s sense of self-esteem, self-importance, or self-worth. The part of us that feels the need to be special, commands approval, and often feels lacking in some way – countering opposition to our perceived self image. That is what ego is in the simpler sense, and that’s what we’ll zone in on.

First of all, we are not our ego! And one of the most powerful ways to change our life is to step back from our ego. There is you, and there is also your ego, and you are not the same as your ego. You are not your thoughts, your created identity, or your life story. You are the awareness behind the thoughts, the one that has the ability to observe the thinker. This distinction has the power to change your whole life.

So the ego lets you create that self based on external forces such as society’s norms (how you should look, feel, act) as well as internal forces such as (how you see yourself) based on your evolution and experiences thus far in your years, and is always present to protect and promote that self if it is ever threatened or challenged. The problem is, that creation is not a true representation of you.

Many of the emotions we experience, especially the negatives ones like anger or anxiety, are the result of thoughts we have. As we observe events in our daily lives, we interpret them in our minds, and our interpretations do not always accurately reflect reality. We often misjudge the actions, motives, or thoughts of other people. We also spend much of our time “lost in our heads” as we think about the past or future while missing the present moment. When we split ourselves in this way, when our bodies are here in the now while our mind is in the past or future, we open the gateways for many negative emotions, such as regret or fear.

Thus, our ego/thoughts is often the cause of our suffering. Ego is easily offended, and when facing disagreement, it likes to be right and wants to win. It prefers winning over harmony. It often tries to control others because ego likes things to be a certain way. At its best, ego may manifest as pride, but at its worst, ego is the cause of nearly all the violence and suffering that exists in our world.

Yet there is no doubt that our ego seems to be a natural part of life. Early in our childhood we begin to understand ourselves as separate individuals, and this process of developing our ego continues dramatically into our adolescence. As adults, we continue to revise and develop our sense of self with a tendency to identify so strongly with this identity we’ve constructed, that we forget our true nature. The challenge is to reconnect with our core – the awareness that is present when we step back from our ego.

How to Keep Your Ego in Check

Channel Your Awareness

Now that you know what ego is, and its pervasiveness in your life, make a concerted effort to channel it so that it works for you and not against you. And the most effective way to do this is to channel your awareness of its presence in your everyday affairs and sidestep it when not needed. It is always there but it is not always needed, and recognizing the different times is major in using it to your advantage. According to Eckhart Tolle in his book The Power of Now, “Awareness is the beginning of becoming free of the ego because then you realize that your thoughts – and the negative emotions they produce — are dysfunctional and unnecessary.”

Practice Gratitude

When you have a grateful heart, you will be happier. You will view people, situations, and things in a lighter way, and the ego will have no place to dwell. We know it may be difficult for some of you to practice gratitude because of certain situation you may be enduring. But we implore you to get a journal, document your daily events, and look back through your journal – periodically, to see all that you’ve accomplished.

In addition, they say gratitude opens doors, and we can attest to that! Whether you believe in the Law of Attraction or not, it is still working. And it can work either for or against you! So the sooner you get on board and channel it for your best, the sooner you will start having a more amazing life. Depending on what you are looking to accomplish, the Law of Attraction requires happiness in order to function effectively for you. Happiness is a prerequisite! That is one reason we stress the importance of finding your happy place, so you can easily get back to that happy place after a temporary diversion, such as mourning a loss.

Practice Humility

“Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” Again, we know this may be difficult for some of you who, for no reason of your own but genetics. You have a hard time taking the lower seat or putting someone else’s needs above your own, but we can assure you that if you adopt Stephen R. Covey’s 5th Habit “Seek first to understand, then to be understood” it will take you to a place of humility giving you a sense of calm and control that will ultimately put that ego on notice.

Life is better when your ego is not in charge. Here are some reasons why:

You Make Better Decisions – When you step back from your ego, you will make better decisions in your life. You’ll find that your choices will be based on what ultimately matters to you, what you value on a deeper level, and not just the superficial whims of your ego identity. Ego has a tendency to value things like status, material gain, and image. When you are not ruled by your ego, peace, love, and sharing are more likely to become priorities – the intangibles.

You are Able to Live & Be Present in the Moment – One of the most significant changes that takes place when you step back from your ego is that you experience the present moment more often. By learning how to observe your thoughts instead of identifying with them, you also learn to observe everything else. You’ll be more aware of your surroundings; more things will surprise you that you never noticed before. Even the same walk you take every day can feel fresh and new when you aren’t experiencing the cached version in your head.

You Experience More Happiness & Improved Moods – When you no longer identify with every thought in your head, they do not have as much of an affect on you. You can experience your thoughts and the emotions they trigger much like the weather, something that is always changing that you don’t really have control of. To learn more about this concept, read You Can Be Happy No Matter What, an excellent book on how thoughts affect our mood.

You Experience More Peace & Fewer Arguments – When you are aware of ego’s agenda, you are less likely to identify with it. If you have a thought that causes you to feel angry, you can learn to just observe the reaction almost as if it were happening to someone else. You still feel the anger, but you will be less likely to act if you realize it is your ego that feels wounded. By learning to step back from your ego, you’ll find you have fewer arguments with family and friends. You will also notice when others are acting through ego.

You Experience More Freedom – When you free yourself from the grip of your ego, you’ll realize how many things you were doing just to please your ego, and you may decide to stop doing some of those things. You’ll also care less about what people think of you. You’ll notice when others are acting through ego and trying to control you, but you aren’t easily manipulated when you are aware of what is happening. When you stop identifying with your ego, you can finally relax and just be yourself.

So why not just get rid of it? Because it has its purpose. For example, ego is capable of giving you that boost of confidence that you can achieve whatever goal you are pursuing, based on the self image you have created for you. So ego can be good or bad; temper it, and live an amazing life.

Transformational Book Series – Our Picks | Abundance Now

In January we kicked off a new MBB series to highlight transformational books for women called, Transformational Book Series – Our Picks. This month we’re excited to continue the series by sharing with you our next transformational book in the series – Abundance Now by Lisa Nichols & Janet Switzer.

In addition, she was determined that she deserved more, and resolved that in order to access abundance NOW she must break out of the defeatist mindset, negative behavior, and bad habits that were holding her back from success and change her life’s direction.

Lisa Nichols vision for this book is that all of us who partake will create a life that is rich in every way possible, focusing on the four E’s – Enrichment, Enchantment, Engagement, and Endowment which Lisa terms “the framework upon which a fulfilled existence is built”. We couldn’t agree more!

Confidence: The “Must Have” Every Woman Needs – If Cash Is King Confidence Is Queen

Confidence: The "Must Have" Every Woman Needs

Yes!!! Confidence is that “must have” every woman needs – if they are to succeed at anything.

As women, we are constantly bombarded with requirements on how we should look, act, feel and express ourselves, and because we are all different and the one-size-fits-all pedagogy does not work, some of us fall victim – attempting to conform to unattainable standards. This is a confidence killer! Looking externally for approval which will never come; for always there will be someone who is displeased with something about you.

Another very deep-rooted confidence killer is growing up in a household that is run by hurt people. It is true what they say, “Hurt people do hurt people!”. A lot of women grew up in households where the parents or guardians were victims of verbal and physical abuse, that were possibly passed down from one generation to the next, and the hurt they experience in a place where they should be able to take solace and be shielded, is the thing that damage them in so many ways – for many years and sometimes for life. Yes, some women were constantly told from an early age that they are: not good enough, will never amount to anything, no man will want to marry you, you’re doomed. There is absolutely no doubt that these women will have the hardest time loving, embracing, and empowering themselves. But it is not impossible! And it is necessary for your success! Of course, some women who experienced these things by their loved-ones will possibly need therapy, but with the right help, healing can take place, and will if they commit to the process.

Regardless of what is hindering your self confidence, you need it! And so you must ascertain what the root cause is, and work at eliminating it. In addition to seeking out therapy for those of you who experienced this psychological trauma in your homes growing up that has led to your self degradation, here are a few tips to ward off this pervasive evil of projected conformity and secure your space of confidence:

1) Empower yourself. Know that YOU have the power to reshape your life, then give yourself permission to do so. This includes clearing out past hurts and hindrances from your life, examining YOU to see how you want to be, and redefining yourself. Fix the things you do not like about yourself! Clothes not fitting the way you want? Eat healthier, work out. Not digging your limited vocabulary? Learn new words. Have a friend who makes you feel bad about yourself? Let that friend go! Goodbye! Adios! Bon Voyage! The key is to ensure you are doing it for you.

Empowering yourself also includes setting yourself up to win. Too many women are discouraged about their abilities because they set themselves goals that are too difficult to achieve. Start by setting yourself small goals that you can win easily. Once you have built a stream of successes that make you feel good about yourself, you can then move on to harder goals. Make sure that you also keep a list of all your achievements, both large and small, to remind yourself of the times that you have done well – and celebrate ALL your accomplishments.

“To establish true self-confidence, we must concentrate on our successes and forget about the failures and the negatives in our lives.” – Denis Waitley

2) Affirm yourself – always. “Affirmations are a powerful tool to deliberately install desired beliefs about yourself.” – Nikki Carnevale

Affirmations are positive and uplifting statements that we say to ourselves. These are normally more effective if said out loud so that you can hear yourself say it. We tend to believe whatever we tell ourselves constantly. For example, if you hate your own physical appearance, practice saying something that you appreciate or like about yourself when you next look in the mirror. To get your brain to accept your positive statements more quickly, phrase your affirmations as “I am” as in “I am beautiful and smart” “I am a confident woman”. Say it loud with power and conviction! Then act like it!

“You have been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” – Louise L. Hay

3) Build yourself a safe space and decide who you let into your space. Yes, stay clear of people who does nothing for your self esteem. There are some people we let into our space that are detrimental to our very well-being. They’re always cynical, rarely supportive of anything we do, and never compliments us on anything. Yet, these same people are the ones we not only allow to be a part of our close circle, but we also look to them for approval. No more!

The king is a ruler and so is cash! The Queen is the activator and so is confidence! Can’t do very much without cash, and you won’t get very far without confidence. Confidence is that thing that you embody that allows the magic of the universe to conspire in your favor. You see without confidence you will not be able to effectively share your talents and gifts, and garner the support and attention you need for your efforts. Without confidence you will be overlooked – plain and simple! You need confidence to get to that cash. Work that confidence!

Grace Killelea, in her book The Confidence Effect: Every Woman’s Guide to the Attitude That Attracts success, delve into the attributes that help to build self confidence that women find hard to embody while men embrace with ease. She also reminds us that we need to dress up, show up, and “own” our competence. Get this book, read it, and implement her strategies to help boost your confidence.

So there you have it, Confidence: The “Must Have” Every Woman Needs – If Cash is King Confidence is Queen
