How to Organize Your Life So It Work For and Not Against You

Organize Your Life So It Work For & Not Against You

Disorganization causes confusion and chaos! One cannot thrive in an environment where things are disorderly and out of place. We can all agree on that! Without order and organization, we cannot function effectively, and we will waste a lot of time moving aimlessly without a clear mission or the discipline to follow it. Our environment is a reflection of our inner man/woman. If our inner man/woman is organized and orderly, so will our immediate environs be. We will not tolerate prolonged disorder and chaos unless it is entirely outside of our control.

There is absolutely no doubt that we are sacked with tons of things to do on a daily basis from juggling our home, work, relationships, finances, health, errands, and everything in between, life can certainly be hectic. However, if we can put some order to it, we will be better able to find balance and function more efficiently.

Some of us like to leave important things that need to be done for the last minute, and try as we may, we cannot break the mold and nip that habit in the bud. Why? Because habits are the hardest things to break. Without intentional, deliberate, consistent effort to discard a bad habit and replace it with a good habit, it cannot be done.

So how can we organize our life so it work for us and not against us? Here are 5 ways:

1. Create a Mission Statement

The first step in decluttering and organizing your life is to create a mission statement. No! Mission statements are not only for corporations and businesses. In fact, people have been using them for generations and it is one of the main things successful people credit with the level of success they were able to attain. Creating a mission statement helps to give you a clearer and more precision-based focus on what you want and don’t want in your life. It does not have to be lengthy; it just need to have the things you value and want to make happen, and the things you do not value and will not work to make happen. Ask yourself, “What is important to me and what isn’t important to me?” We have designed a workbook to help with this specific task of figuring out what you want and does not want. It’s called our Dream Lifestyle Designing Workbook. It is geared towards you thinking about and answering questions that are vital to you deciding what you want to keep in your life right now, and what you want to get rid of. It could be things, people, environment. Whatever is not serving your higher purpose, now is the time to dispose of them.

Example of a Mission Statement

“I aspire to inspire others with my actions but will never forget the power of my voice. I will laugh at myself and help others experience joy. I will use my time mindfully and not allow anyone to mindlessly use my time. I will give and I will receive. I will not fear mistakes but will work earnestly to avoid them, and if they do occur, I will use them as catalysts to my advancement. I will create a welcoming home where peace, love and joy abide. I will love and nurture my family and do everything in my power to protect them. I will pursue my dreams with passion and allow nothing and no-one to deter me. I will seek out opportunities that can enhance my life and secure my dreams, and ensure opportunities find me ready. I will honor my commitments to myself and others, and align myself with people who do the same. I am committed to contributing to my community, growing as a person, finding and loving someone wholeheartedly, and building a business from the ground up – with integrity. I will travel the world and share experiences with people that will allow me to see life from another perspective. I will no longer tolerate or involve myself with people who help to bring about conflict, deceit, and frustration in my life. I will no longer feel sorrow, or regret my decisions – regardless of their outcome; I will either celebrate or deduct the lessons then toss them. I will no longer be bound or defined by my past, but will be emancipated and refined by my future.”

Yes, that was way long, but yours don’t have to be. Just make it inclusive and direct.

2. Set SMART Goals

Use the information from your mission statement to set some clear and specific goals for the things you want in life. Goals will help you to further your agenda by giving you a target of what you’re aiming at. Now that you understand the things you want and don’t want in your life, put some spatial recognition to it. Figure out when you want them by, so you can be able to measure your progress towards them.

Goals are important to decluttering your mind and organizing your life because they give you something to move towards. Goals that are SMART will define what you want and ensure you have the best chance of accomplishing it. For example, if you want to start your own business, you will want to decide “what kind of business it is” and “when you will open up shop”. You will also need to ascertain what you will need in order to achieve that goal, and the key people or institution that are necessary components to you accomplishing your goal. If you want to travel the world, how many cities do you want to see? and by when? Specifically write out all of the cities you’ll visit in your life and when you’ll do it. This way, you have a moving target. Your goals can also then be broken down into milestones that will help you to see what you need to achieve this week, month, and year. It’s so important to organizing your life. Without a concrete set of goals we’re like ships without sail.

3. Develop a Routine & Stick to It

Life is a series of routines that are based on habits. These habitual sets of behaviors are aggregated to form our typical day. For the disorganized person, routines are generally interrupted by unexpected occurrences that result from either a lack of planning, some form of procrastination, or the result of some constant or on-going emergency or crisis. For example, when relationships, health, or financial problems reach epidemic levels, life tends to get more chaotic and less organized. Some things we cannot control and they demand we disrupt our routine, however, we still need to have structure and guide to our day in order to be productive. Start with a morning routine and a nightly routine, and organize the other important things in between. That way you create structure and organization that help to command your day.

When you’re so busy dealing with something that’s taking so much of your mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical resources, it’s difficult to get centered and make any progress. However, by creating routines and sticking to them, you can help to manage the day-to-day chaos and help bring some order to your life. Without established routines, life merely becomes a set of responses to stimuli that are hurled from every direction. Without a routine in place that will help to promote both a happy and healthy lifestyle, along with a positive response to things outside of our control, life can take on a very disastrous tone.

4. Manage Your Time

We cannot stress enough how important effective time management is. Carefully and intentionally manage your time by using the Eisenhower principle which Stephen R. Covey elaborated on in his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Everything is categorized by its level of urgency and importance and can fall into 4 quadrants – 1) urgent and important, 2) not urgent but important, 3) urgent but not important, 4) not urgent and not important.

When you can organize your daily tasks and look at things that come up as fitting into these four quadrants, then you can better tackle the things that are important to you. Most of us are busy responding to things that are urgent but not important. We’re also usually busy doing things that are both not urgent and not important, such as mindlessly watching television for hours on end.

The goal here is to tackle the not urgent but important quadrant of things that need to be done in your life. These are what help you to strive towards your long-term goals. So, to better declutter things and organize your life by using your mission statement and goals, you can help to make daily lists that will allow you to more effectively manage your time.

5. Minimize Stress

Stressors are everywhere, and everyone experience stress at some point in their lives. In fact, we can’t simply say that we’ll eliminate all of the stress in our lives because we’re at the mercy of external forces at times that includes other people and situations and are beyond our control. However, what we can do is minimize stress. We can do the things that are relevant and vital to our peace of mind, and ensure our immediate environ is welcoming, relaxing, and nurturing. We can be at the mercy of others but it doesn’t mean that our mental state has to suffer because of it. We can create individual spaces – both physically, mentally, and spiritually, where we can escape the stressors that are so pervasive, and be at peace. If you can setup systems to avoid or minimize stress, then you can better function and focus more on the things that matter to you.

One of the biggest stressors many people face, is lack of financial stability and the constant battle to fulfill their obligations and make ends meet. This is why we have created so many programs here at My Blooming Biz International to help women combat financial lack. Programs such as our: UPPPP Your Genius, WERK Your Money Making Genie, and MASTER Your Finances were created and developed to ensure women get to live and enjoy what we call, “the empowered woman lifestyle”. They are at the center of what we do here, as we recognize that financial independence is the cornerstone to anyone enjoying a high standard of living and a good quality of life. Being financially secure is a huge hurdle in avoiding unnecessary stress, and we should all make it our priority to become financially secure. When your finances are in order you are better able to afford those things that are necessary for full organization. You can shop and stock your home well, eat well, acquire the things for your comfort, and better keep things in place.

When you have a mission statement, and you use it as a guide, it can help to put stressful situations into perspective. If there’s a problem on the horizon, think about how you can resolve that problem while adhering to your mission statement. Your mission statement will be like a constitution for governing your life; you can see what things fit and what don’t, and for the things that don’t fit, you can craft some policies for eliminating them from your life. In order to avoid stressors, you must organize your life. There is no way around it! Organization helps us to not lose sight of what we’re reaching for, and keeps us in the know of what we are doing vs what we should be doing.

6. Home & Office Organization

A clean home, office, and overall environment invoke a clean clear mind. In order to declutter and organize your life, you have to organize your surroundings. When your home is messy, cluttered, with things strewn all about, it is difficult to have any sense of mental organization or purpose. Unfortunately, many of us live with clutter surrounding us; we bask in the chaos and plead that we have our own system when in reality it doesn’t serve us in the least! To organize your life, do a deep clean from top to bottom; everything from your house, to your car, to your office, all needs to be cleaned and fully organized, and make every effort to maintain it.

If you don’t organize and clean your surroundings, your mind has a funny way of cataloging your to-do’s in the depth of your subconscious and using it to help you put other things off. If you have trouble with procrastination, decide that you will spend just 10 to 15 minutes each day cleaning and organizing. For the sanity and clarity organization brings to our lives, that’s the least we can do!

Dare to Dream BIG and Improve Your Odds of Realizing Your Dreams

Dare to Dream BIG

Dreaming BIG may sound like a fantasy, but we have seen time and again how “small” people with BIG dreams turn their dreams into reality. All of us can name at least one person who started out really shaky, but have pulled through tremendously, and have continued to up their ante – setting new goals and reaching them. So, whatever struggles you’re facing in life right now, or however grim your situation looks, just know that dreams are still coming through today just as they were yesterday – and yours can too! This too shall pass!

Dreams give us life! They give us a sense of purpose, a sense of something incredible to look forward to – something that would make our lives so much more meaningful, and those dreams invigorate us and keep us vibrant and charged. So, don’t be afraid to dream BIG! No matter how many people have doubted you can ever achieve what you set out to accomplish because of where you’re from or the struggles they’ve seen you have – dare to dream big. Be down but not out! Across the world and through the annals of history, people have dreamt big dreams; they’ve had audacious hearts and unrelenting spirits. And those who dared to get out there and pushed and pushed through – unrelentingly, have seen their dreams come true, and so can you.

If you can dream it, you can do it. – Walt Disney

Now, we know what you’re thinking! You’re asking yourself questions that start with “How” “When” and “Where”. You’re saying things like, “How am I ever supposed to achieve my dreams when I’m so far in debt?” or “When will I ever get the opportunity to truly succeed?” and, “Where will I ever find the money, time, or connections to accomplish what I want in life?” We all ask ourselves these types of questions as we have a tendency to doubt our capabilities, but you will find a way like many others who did pursue their dreams relentlessly and have seen it realized. If you want it enough, you will find a way, and see it through! Here are a few workable programs that can help you in this quest:

Notable People Who Have Remained Relentless In Spite of Obstacles & Have Realized Their Dreams

1. Oprah Winfrey

One of the best examples of a person who dared to dream big and have realized their dream in spite of obstacles, is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah was born into poverty. She was fired from one of her first TV jobs because the producer said that she was “unfit for television” – how dare he/she? But, Oprah Winfrey has gone on to become one of the richest, most successful women in the world, and it was all because she dared to dream big and remained resilient. She could have not tried hard, or given up as soon as she faced the first obstacle, but she pushed through and remained persistent and consistent until her dream was realized. And how great is she at talking and bringing people together in conversation? She’s amazing!

2. J.K. Rowling

We cannot overlook one of the most amazing experience J.K. Rowling has shared with us, of her courage, tenacity, and determination to have her dream of becoming one of the most-read authors – realized. While working a secretarial job, Rowling, now famous for the Harry Potter series of books, was fired because she was spending more time working on the book at work than she was with her secretarial duties. Talk about passion! Rowling spent 7 years toiling away at the book, suffered through the death of her mother, a divorce, living on government assistance, and being turned away by publishers. But she dared to dream big, and remained in pursuit, and is now the wealthiest author and one of the most-read author in the world. Talk about resilience!

3. Jerry Seinfeld

This is a story of courage in the face of pain and opposition. One of the most successful comedians to date, dared to dream big, and have materialized his dream in the face of obstacles. Success did not come easy for him! In fact, the first time Seinfeld stepped on stage to do his act he was booed off. But that didn’t deter him. Seinfeld was a dreamer and he kept at it, even though he failed and was embarrassed and humiliated, he kept at his dream. He did not give up because people were mean to him, and he was mortified, he went away from that experience with the mindset to perfect his acting skills, and that’s exactly what he has done. Would he have gotten to experience his dream of acting had he given up when they booed him? No, he would not! Was he a terrible actor when they booed him? You bet he was! But those boos pushed him to get better at acting, and he continued because he was passionate about acting. He needed it; it was meaningful to him, and nothing was going to stop him from realizing that dream.

So, how can you increase the odds of ever seeing your dreams come true?

1. Ensure It Is Something Meaningful To You & You Have a Strong Why For Wanting It

That passion, meaningfulness, and tenacity that the above-mentioned people had towards their dream, is the same passion, meaningfulness, and tenacity you must have, in order for your dreams to be realized. If you do not have a strong “why” and your dream is not meaningful to you, you will not be able to continue the pursuit when the going gets tough. And it may!

2. Make a Commitment To yourself That You Will Realize Your Dream & Write It In Big Bold Letters Placing It Conspicuously

If number 1 is not in place, then this number 2 will be useless. You can put up all the pictures and words (vision boards) you want, but if you are not passionate about them and they are not very meaningful to you, you will quit at the first sight of a stumbling block. But as long as #1 is in place, putting your dreams in visual form and placing it where you can see it throughout your day – or at least in the mornings and again at nights, will improve your odds of realizing your dream.

3. Use Negativity & Obstacles as Catalysts for Your Advancement Towards Your Dream

When people criticize you or don’t see what you see in yourself, and believe about yourself, it is easy for us to fold than continue on whatever journey we were on. However, those criticisms and obstacles may be learning/stepping tools we can use to propel us further. We can use those setbacks as the prerequisite to our comeback, in that we will take those criticisms and use them to better equip ourselves.

4. Follow Your Plan & Path You Have Crafted & Take Consistent Steps Towards Your Dream – Every Day

Regardless of how you feel each day, as far as emotions/moods, make every effort to follow through with your success-oriented plan towards realizing your dreams. Whatever you have setup for each day to do that will take you closer to your dream, allow nothing and no-one to veer you off track – and if by chance you get off track – to stay off track. Get back on track and continue on with your eyes fixed on the prize – your BIG dream. Design and Live Your Dream Lifestyle! You have it in you to succeed and accomplish anything you desire. 10 Success Habits The Empowered Woman Employ

10 Success Habits The Empowered Woman Employ

Our habits are at the center of who we are and what we do. They are derived from repetitious behavior over time as our minds etch them into patterns called neural pathways. These neural pathways help to govern our lives and make everyday tasks simpler; however, these tasks are done subconsciously and we don’t all have habits that serve us. In fact, most of our habits aren’t success habits; most of our habits are bad habits. These bad habits are what set us back. They’re the late-night snacking on not-so-healthy foods, or the over-watching of television, over-surfing of the Internet, smoking cigarettes when we know we should be quitting, and just about anything else that is a disservice to us. You know what your bad habits are! And, you know what your good habits are. The problem is that most peoples’ bad habits outweigh their good habits, and it’s a huge challenge to break bad habits and develop good habits. Nonetheless, we must all work at developing success oriented habits!

We all want to be successful in life at something! We have visions, goals and dreams we want to accomplish and often set in motion plans to achieve them. However, while some of us push tirelessly toward them every day and don’t relent until we accomplish what we set out to, that “some of us” is a very low number. According to a University of Scranton research, the number of people who accomplish their new year resolution goals is actually just 8%. Only 8 out of 100 people who set a goal on New Year’s actually accomplish it. Surprising? Not at all! We have all been there before when we’ve set goals, got excited about them, then when that excitement wore off, so did our drive to pursue those goals. The difference though, is in the passion we have for the dreams we have, and the habits we set in motion to ensure we achieve them.

So what are some of the habits we can adopt to ensure we accomplish our goals?

Here are 10 Success Habits The Empowered Woman Employ

Success Habit 1. The Empowered Woman Set Goals Daily

The first success habit the empowered woman employ is to set her goals every single day. And, she does not only set them and forget them, she follows through. Otherwise, it does not work! She understands that working the plan is just as important as making the plan. So, set your goals every single day and look at your progress. Even if you set long-term goals, you have to review them every day. Break them down into smaller goals and milestones that you can accomplish daily. Goal setting is an important skill to have! And not passive goal setting where it’s vaguely in your mind, it must be active goal setting where it’s written down on paper and visible, instead of being tucked away. They have to be visceral! When your goals are real and on paper, something changes – it becomes real. You have a target!

The empowered women recognizes that the habit of goal setting is a must-have success habit because everything in life revolves around goals. If you set your goals properly, and you know what you want, when you want it by, and why you want it, then your life takes on an entirely different meaning. You have some sense of purpose; you’re not just aimlessly going about your day, but you are intentional and purposeful.

Success Habit 2. The Empowered Woman Manages Her Time Efficiently

The second success habit the empowered woman employ is to manage her time efficiently. Time management is essential to succeeding in any area of our lives. We all know just how much time we waste on a daily basis doing things that we probably shouldn’t be doing. We excessively surf the web, chat on social media, text message with our friends, watch television, go out too often, and the list goes on and on. At the end of the day, the things that are vital to the achievement of our big goal are not touched on at all.

The empowered woman knows that in order to manage her time efficiently, she has to get organized. This literally only takes a few minutes each day. The first thing you’ll need to do is adhere to the #1 success habit and that is to set goals daily. When you break your day down into what you need to do, you can categorize the importance of those things. Based on the Eisenhower Principle of time management, everything can be categorized on a scale of urgent and important. So, on this scale as Stephen R. Covey in his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People explained, there are four quadrants based upon the urgency and importance of any task. Tasks can either be Quadrant 1) urgent and important, Quadrant 2) not urgent but important, Quadrant 3) urgent but not important, or Quadrant 4) not urgent and not important. The place to spend most of your time is in Quadrant 2, which is the area that enhance your life and propel you towards achieving your long-term goals.

Success Habit 3. The Empowered Woman Measures and Tracks Everything

The third success habit the empowered woman employ is to measure and track everything; from her goals, to her time, to her finances, to her weight, and everything in between. She knows that the only way to make changes where change is necessary, is to measure her progress – whether she is advancing or declining, whether she is moving along at the pace she intended, what areas need change, and what can be done to accelerate her progress. Tracking means you are intentional about what you’re doing. When you track your time, your time goes only where you want it to. When you track your finances, your money goes only where you want it to. When you track your weight, you maintain only the weight you want to keep. Everything you track, you are able to do something about it to ensure it works for you and not against you.

This success habit doesn’t take that much time. There is some initial setup, say in building a spreadsheet that can help you track things like your weight, your expenses, and so on. But, the daily input of the numbers doesn’t take that long. Getting into the habit of doing this is the hard part, but once you have pushed through with discipline, it will become easier and your new auto habit. So, commit to spending 15-minutes each day tracking everything. You can do it in the beginning of the day for the prior day or at the end of the day for that same day. If you promise yourself you will only spend 15 minutes doing something, your brain realizes that it’s not a huge hurdle for it to make. In fact, none of the 10 success habits the empowered woman employ, will take you huge commitments of time. What it will take is actually engaging in them on a consistent basis – day after day.

Success Habit 4. The Empowered Woman Budget and Spend Wisely

The fourth success habit the empowered woman employ is to budget and spend wisely. She recognizes that money is one of the most important tools in this world and that if you aren’t born into a family with unlimited resources AND have access to it, you will need to carefully monitor your finances and continuously seek out ways to increase it. She is prudent in her monetary affairs, and takes every step necessary to not only maximize her earning potential, but also to ensure every dollar goes only where she wants it to. As humans, especially us women, we can be excessively impulsive with our spending. We don’t spend wisely and tend to base our decision-making process to purchase something on the subconscious inner directive of our mind. We’re not sure why we bought something, we just knew we had to have it. When you don’t budget and conduct your financial affairs accordingly, the ego has a way of shrouding your mindset and controlling your behavior with excuses as to why you should spend on whatever you want. It is a product of misinformation and an all-out manipulation by the subconscious mind. You simply had to have that “thing” because it was on sale and it might never go on sale again, blah, blah, blah.

So, budgeting and spending wisely is a success habit that the empowered woman employ and most of us know we need to implement. If you can take 15 minutes every day to track your spending and check your budget to ensure you are on par, then your ego will have less control as you would be in the know and more prone to be mindful of your spending – what you can and cannot afford, what is included and not included in your budget. You can use an app such as Mint.com to track your spending. This won’t be easy at first. Like any of the other success habits mentioned here, it’s going to take some effort. But all you have to do is commit yourself to the process, and use 10 to 15 minutes every day to check your progress. If you can do that, then you can build on the momentum, and after a while it will become the new habit you formed. Just get started!

Success Habit 5. The Empowered Woman Pays Herself First

The fifth success habit the empowered woman employ is to pay herself first. One of the most important financial habits for success is paying yourself first. When you pay yourself first, you’re ensuring that YOU are taken care of before anything else. You are making sure that you have savings and are covered in the event anything unforeseen and unplanned – life’s curves get thrown at you, you are prepared. You also want to ensure you are saving for your future when you will not be able to work as you can now when you are younger and more vibrant. Deciding on a sum and putting aside that portion in your saving and investment account, is the surefire way to secure yourself and your well-being. We here at MBB recommend deducting and saving at least 15% of your income from each paycheck, as soon as it is cashed. If you have a successful business, you can choose to set aside more. The more, the better! You can choose to have your bank deduct and transfer that amount from your checking to your savings or investment account automatically each pay period, which will ensure your portion gets set aside.

If your future means something to you then this is a success habit you must implement. We all want and wish the best for ourselves but we don’t know what the future holds. We don’t know what will happen in the next minute let alone a year or two, and so this makes it vitally important to save and continuously increase our net worth. Saving is a habit that invokes so much more than just putting money on autopilot, when you pay yourself first, this success habit actually activates a part of the mind that tells you you are getting somewhere – you are secure. So change your mindset! Make that shift and start paying yourself first. You will not be able to make significant progress in life without these kinds of success habits that will empower you and allow you to build a foundation for growth in the future.

Success Habit 6. The Empowered Woman Exercise Every Day

The sixth success habit the empowered woman employ is to exercise every day. Exercise does not have to be an enormous mental hurdle. In fact, there are a variety of ways to exercise and you can commit to doing the most basic which is a few stretches followed by a brisk 15 minute walk – everyday. You can walk around the block in your neighborhood, or choose to use a treadmill. The most important thing is that you do some form of exercise, and once you get started and continue to for a while, it will become the new good habit you have formed. Once you commit to 15 minutes each day and follow through the first few days, your mind will cease trying to talk you out of it. Your subconscious won’t be able to help you reason your way out of why you don’t want to exercise any day.

This success habit is important to your health, your vitality, and your overall well-being. Learn to embrace it! If you have a hard time getting started in the morning, then place your running shoes and clothes next to your bed. When you open your eyes in the morning, lace up, get dressed, and hit the ground running (or walking). Don’t think about it! Just do it!

Success Habit 7. The Empowered Woman Get Ample Amount of Sleep

The seventh success habit the empowered woman employ is to get ample amount of sleep. The empowered woman knows that in order for her to operate at her best and maintain her overall health, she must get the amount of sleep her body, mind, and spirit require, and as such, she takes time out to ascertain her sleep number so she can get the amount of sleep her body needs in order to function optimally. One of the best habits that seem to allude most people is to get ample amount of sleep. We are all alike but different in a lot of ways, and our sleep number or number of hours required for us to function at our best, varies from person to person. This is why it is important for each of us to check ourselves and know what our individual sleep number is. When you awake in the mornings you should not be groggy or tired, you should feel well rested, replenished, and rejuvenated. If you do not, then it means you need more rest. You have not used your sleep number!

Success Habit 8. The Empowered Woman Takes Daily Action

The eighth success habit the empowered woman employ is taking daily action. The empowered woman knows that becoming complacent and slacking off – even for a day, can become habit forming and thus detrimental to her success. Many people have attested to this phenomenon that refusing to remain consistent even in short instances, will pave the way for all out complacency. We have all been there at some point in our life when we say, “oh, I’ll do it tomorrow” or “It’s not terrible if I take a day off, I’ll do it tomorrow” and then tomorrow became the following day, and the following day became the following day, and on and on it goes all the way to not getting done at all. Procrastination is not in the empowered woman’s handbook! And it shouldn’t be in yours! When you can habitually take action towards your goals and dreams, you get closer and closer with each passing day. Even if the progress is minimal, as long as it’s constant, you will get to your goal.

Success Habit 9. The Empowered Woman Makes Healthy Choices

The ninth success habit the empowered woman employ is making healthy choices. Making healthy choices can be difficult, especially when we’re pressed for time. We may grab the nearest burger from the fast food joint closest to us because we are pressed for time and at times tired too. We may choose to skip our exercise regime because we are working at something and need to meet a deadline. We may choose to stay up all night just so we can watch that movie marathon we’ve been itching to watch for days. And the list goes on and on. The empowered woman knows the importance of always being in good shape – mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially and so she deliberately make choices that will allow her to remain in great shape at all times.

In order to help in making the right choices, you must get organized and set things in motion to facilitate making healthy choices. For example, you can plan your meals for your week on the weekend and even prep or partially prep some of them. You can try to not leave things for last minute where you have to sacrifice your fitness regimen. And you can choose to watch your marathon at a more appropriate time by DVRing it and watching it at a time more convenient that’s not cutting in to your sleep time. Have an apple ready on hand if you get hungry to snack rather than a candy bar because your body will thank you. Our body spends more than 50% of its energy digesting foods that are rich in carbs, fats, and sugars. As such, we should focus on natural fats and sugars through things like avocados, fruits, vegetables, and naturally-sourced foods. This is a major success habit that literally takes little to no time if you plan ahead. All you have to do is decide that you’ll make better decisions on a daily basis about what you eat, when you sleep, and what you will and will not allow to interfere with your healthy habits.

Success Habit 10. The Empowered Woman Practice Gratitude Everyday

The 10th and final success habit the empowered woman employ is practicing gratitude everyday. This does not take much time to implement! And, the empowered woman is very much aware of the positives that come from being grateful and showing gratitude. She maintains a gratitude journal and writes what she is grateful for every, single, day. We can all find something to be thankful for everyday. Clean water. Nutritious foods. The ability to use our mental faculties. The ability to live, breathe, and move about freely without any form of mechanical aid. Getting back home safely after a long day out. Our family being happy, healthy, and by our side. And so many more things we can give thanks for daily. It doesn’t have to be big! It could even be that the rain started falling just as you walk through the door and are home safely with your family. All you need to do is spend 5 or 10 minutes each day writing out what you have to be grateful for and why. If you say that you have nothing to be grateful for then you’re not thinking hard enough. The problem that many of us have in life is that we only tend to look at the BIG things and compare ourselves to the Joneses (and the Kardashians) when we fall short. At the end of your day, just tune in in a quiet place, and think about your day and those little things that you appreciate that made your day worthwhile. You will see you have so much to be grateful for!  Remember, gratitude opens the door so that success can enter in.

In a nutshell, the empowered woman invests in herself – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and financially.  She knows that if she takes care of herself – mind, body, spirit, they will in turn take care of her.  She knows that what she puts in is what she’ll get out, and does everything in her power to learn, grow, and thrive.

How to Calculate Your Net Worth (+ Free Workbook)

How to Calculate Your Net Worth

Calculate my net worth? Yea, it’s a thing. It sounds like measuring yourself against money to see how you stock up, and that really suck connecting your worth to money, but in our society? That’s how it is! And as you may have already surmised, the higher your “net worth”, the better the standard of living you will enjoy – not quality of life! But standard of living. There is a difference!

That said, the only way to know your net worth, is to make the calculations. But before we get to that, let’s take a look at what makes up “net worth”.

Your net worth is your assets (things you own) minus your liabilities (things you owe). So things like your home counts as an asset, but if you have a mortgage for your home, your mortgage counts as a liability. Because your mortgage is a debt, it’s something you owe so that would be taken away against the price of your house – that you own. So for every liability there is usually a corresponding asset, and the net of the two is usually positive – meaning, the asset value is usually more than the liability.

Things like car loans, credit card debt and other financed options are all liabilities that can count towards the negative side of your net worth calculation. Things like house value, savings, investments or other money making assets can count towards the positive side of your net worth calculation. In other words, debts that help you add value to your bottom line or create wealth, are “good” debt, good liabilities – such as a mortgage for a rental property, or a truck you use to haul goods and get paid. And debt that take away from your bottom line are “bad” debt – such as credit cards you use to buy things you use up without any returns such as car for personal use, clothing, food, and any number of other things that will not return money to your pockets.

How To Calculate Your Net Worth

To calculate your net worth you need to first ascertain your assets. These are the things you currently own or could sell, in theory, to gain money back. These include:

Your house(s) or building(s)

Your car(s)

Your total savings account(s) balance(s)

Your total investment(s)

Your total checking account(s) balance(s)

Anything of significant value in your home (over $500)

If you add all of these numbers together, this is the total of your assets.

Next, you need to determine your liabilities. These are things you owe, and could include:

Your total mortgage(s) balance(s)

Your total car(s) loan(s) balance(s)

Your total credit card(s) balance(s)

The total of any other loan(s) you have

Add all these together, and this is the total of your liabilities.

Then, to identify your net worth, minus the total of your liabilities from the total of your assets. That number difference is your net worth.

Depending on your individual circumstances, this might be a negative number, but don’t panic! This just means your finances need some work and this is your reference point from which to rise.

We suggest doing this at the end of each year to see the overall progress of your finances, but we also recommend that you track and manage your finances at least on a monthly basis. We do our comprehensive financial stance on the last day of each year, but we also track and manage our finances monthly – individually, and collectively. Whether you own a business or not, you need to track and manage your finances. A monthly tracking and monitoring of your finances gives you a complete picture of your financial stance, putting you in the know so you can do something about it – if it is not favorable. We all want our finances to be healthy – like we are, but if your number is in the negative, then you can work on improving and changing that – sooner than later. It’s also a great idea to do a daily money minute.

How to Improve Your Net Worth

The best way to improve your net worth is to uplevel your money inflow, minimize your money outflow, invest, and track and manage your finances. There are lots of ways to track your finances to see if you are on the right track, and where you need to make changes, and one of them is creating a budget and sticking to it. And thankfully, there are software – paid and free, that can help you track and manage your finances. Some of them we use, recommend, and are familiar with are: QuickBooks (paid), Quicken (paid), Mint.com (free), EveryDollar.com (free).

Creating a budget (and sticking to it), tracking expenses, and saving money are all ways to not only ensure you meet your money goals, but help you know where you are financially – at any given moment.

So, calculating your net worth is fairly simple, and whether it is in the negative or positive, there is always room for improvement. Never stop working at improving your finances, upleveling your net worth!
