The only thing worse than starting something and failing…is not starting something. – Seth Godin
You have something you’ve been wanting to do, and you know you can do it but you just keep getting in your own way.
Maybe it’s something physically – like getting yourself in shape so you can fit into those Fashionnova outfits you admire so much, and to a place where you can look in the mirror and go, “wow!” or maybe it’s starting that business or up-leveling it so you can have more money in your possession to live the lifestyle you desire, maybe it’s cleaning out your closet – both literally and figuratively, getting rid of old clothing as well as old relationships that do not serve you anymore so you can make space for new clothing and new relationships that do serve you, or maybe it’s finally forgiving yourself for a blunder you made some time ago – to yourself or someone else – so you can be light and more equipped to fly.
You can do it! And the best part? It will only make you better. Looking good makes you feel good and allows you to exude a heightened self confidence that is a necessary component to being successful in anything. With that new found self-confidence you’ll become more self-aware operating in self-love and begin to attract all the right things in life – meaningful relationships that will replace those old worn out relationships, access to more money so you actually live your dreams, and power to make decisions that will continue to benefit you and enhance YOUR life.
Ok, maybe it’s none of the above!
What is that thing you’ve been wanting to do?
Ask yourself – consciously,
“Why am I doing this?”
“Why am I self-sabotaging?”
“Why am I not pursuing this thing when I know I want it so much, when I know I can do it?”
”Is it because of some deep rooted beliefs that I have for myself?”
”Is it because of others’ non-belief in me?”
”Is it because I’m not sure of how I will be received/perceived?”
”Is it because I’m afraid I may fail?”
”Is it because I’m missing the habits that I know will ensure my success?”
“Why am I doing this?”
Get to the bottom of it!
If your reason for not getting on board with that thing is internal/external conflict such as what other people think or expect of you, any belief or doubt you have in yourself because of childhood trauma, you probably need professional help from a therapist. But if you haven’t gotten on board with bringing that thing to fruition because you’re afraid to fail, are lacking the habits necessary to pull it off, then we say, “Yes, you may, but jump in anyway” What if you succeed? and “Habits are formed, so get to forming them already.” We strongly believe that if you want something badly enough, if you have a strong why for wanting it, you will make it happen.
So, when you’re through getting to the bottom of why you’re self-sabotaging, do this exercise:
Close your eyes for 1 minute and imagine how your life would change for the better if you get that thing done. Envision yourself operating in your element, in that sphere, just the way you want to. See every aspect of you living the way you want to – how your family is affected, how you’re friends are affected, how your business is affected, how your overall life is affected – in all really great ways.
Now open your eyes, grab a notepad, and begin writing down every detail of what you envisioned 1 minute ago. No, don’t grab coffee, don’t grab wine, don’t grab water – just let it flow – pen to paper.
Now grab your coffee, wine, or water and reread what you wrote.
What are you doing as you read? Smiling? How are you feeling as you read?
Now sit with it for 1 minute.
Imagine actually living that reality – just the way you want to – in all your you-i-ness? With everything you desire in place? It’s possible!
Now go in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eyes and make a commitment to yourself. Tell yourself,
[Your Name], I will do everything in my power to ensure you get to live your life in that reality you’ve envisioned for you. I will craft a plan, implement it, and stay on course until that reality IS your reality. You deserve it! You have the right to it! And I will never let you down – ever again!”
Now close your eyes for a minute in a moment of silence as you let that sink in.
Write this commitment on a sheet on the Notepad and sign your name at the bottom with the date at the top. Attach it to your written vision, and also your vision board. (If you do not have a vision board, learn how to create a vision board and bring your vision to fruition.)
Within the next 72 hrs, list all the things you will need to do to make that vision a reality on a notepad, then secure a planner and begin mapping a path using those items on the list in the order of first to last. You can purchase our Life Planner and Goal Book Combo or get a planner at a store nearest you. You will write down what you will do each day, how you will do it, and the time you will do it.
Do not skip any day! Unless of course you are ill or have an emergency. If you fall ill take utmost care of your health. If you have an emergency deal with it the best you can. But when you’re through dealing with them, get back on track. Life throws darts at us, and they sometimes knock us off track but it is imperative to get back on, and to our finish line.
Don’t get caught up in indecision about what to do first or when to restart! That will keep you stuck in a SPINN cycle. Have you ever been at the grocery store checking out the lines and deciding which one to get on while not being on any line, but then you notice all the lines are getting longer and you’re not on any? You have to make a decision, and fast.

I’m loving that exercise ❤️ We sometimes tell ourselves so many negatives, it’s about time we start telling ourselves positives. And that exercise is an excellent way to start. Yes, we need to really look at ourselves, promise to commit to ourselves, and follow through.
And you know what? Following up on that commitment with some positive, self loving affirmations will really lift our spirits, keep our vibrations high, and help put a pep in our step everyday which will ensure we keep on stepping towards our goals and dreams. Ask me how I know 😊
As always, love reading your blog!
Still battling with self-sabotage a bit, but trust me, it was waaaaaaaaay worse. Guess I have to give myself credit for how far I’ve come.
I totally agree with what you’re saying about having a strong why because ultimately that’s what did it for me. Well, along with some mentorship. The worse thing is to look back at time wasted that cannot be regained. Had I not had that issue I would have accomplished way more in my life by now. But, I’m grateful!
I find that when I really, really want something I have no choice but to pursue and never stop until it is accomplished. Other times I think I need something but never put the effort in to accomplish it or push through in spite of obstacles like I do when I really, really want it. I guess what I’m saying is, you can never accomplish anything unless you truly need it. Won’t happen!
