Vision Board inspired by Jennifer Borget
There is a huge buzz going on about vision boards and that’s because a vision board when created and used the right way, has the power to make dreams come true. Yes! Yes!! Yes!!! Vision boards work! But you must do it right.
What is a vision board?
A vision board or dream board is simply as the name suggests – a board with the visions and dreams you have for yourself – what you want to be, do, or have in your life. It is meant to serve as a reminder of what you seek, and a motivator to continue seeking. It is visual and must be placed in a conspicuous space so you can see it as often as you can throughout your days.
A vision board can be displayed in picture form, word form, or a combination of both. The most common method used is to cut images that represents your vision from magazines, and place them on a board or construction paper in a collage fashion. A vision board can also be created digitally using a software such as the one at the top of this page which was created using Microsoft Word, then enlarging it in Photoshop, and printing it so you can have it on display in your home or office. The most important aspect of a vision board is that it is visual and not hidden away.
A vision board does not work without a plan, and actual action to bring that vision to fruition. As such, there is a main question to ask yourself as you complete your vision board, and that is, what do I need to do to bring my vision to fruition?
A vision board is not magical in and of itself, but we do believe and have proven that the Universe does conspire to bring into existence what we constantly think about and work towards. Whatever we direct our energy towards, will be what is manifested. You must be moving in the direction towards your dreams in order for the Universe to open the way and put the missing pieces into place for you.
You must set your intention for your vision board. What is it for? What is your expectation for it? When are you expecting it to materialize? How will you engage your vision board as you wait for it to come to fruition? Creating, activating, and engaging a vision board is a surefire way to ensure you realize your dreams and begin living the empowered woman lifestyle.
Types of Vision Boards
Our vision for our lives can encompass so many things in each of the 8 key areas of our lives that they may not be able to fit on one vision board. So you can either include only the most important pieces in each key area on one vision board, or create multiple vision boards. You can create a vision board for your health and wellness, personal development, financial aspiration, family life, geographic location…or include a bit of each on one board.
Short term or Longterm Vision Board
A vision board can be short-term – lasting up to a year or longterm – lasting more than a year. For the short-term you want to create a snapshot of the things you want to accomplish within the year in all the areas of your life you desire. For example if you want to complete and publish your book with a particular publisher, include that publisher on the board. If you want to lose some weight and be at a particular weight, include that number on your board. If you want to increase your finances by a certain amount, put that amount on the board. If you want to travel to a specific place within the year, put that place on your board as well. Whatever it is you desire within the year, include them on your short-term vision board. Whatever you desire for the longterm – over a year such as meeting your ideal man and getting married or graduating college with your next level of degree, include them on your longterm vision board. Remember to set your intention for each piece of item you put on your vision board and be as specific as possible.
Aspects or Lifestyle Areas Vision Board
Aspects or Lifestyle Areas vision boards are, as the name suggests, vision boards geared towards specific aspect of your life. For example if you are in the process of writing a book or thinking about writing a book and you want that book to become a success in a certain geographic area or worldwide, or for a certain set of people, you would want to include all the pieces that will get you there – a library, bestseller wording, pen, the name of your book, the publisher you would like to publish your book, key people you would like involved in the process, an image of yourself at a book signing (yes, you can sketch it), and bookstores you would like to sell your book. Again, it is important you set your intention for your vision board before creating it, and for each piece you put on your board.
All in One or Compact Vision Board
A All-in-One or Compact vision board is one that is created to reflect your entire vision for yourself. Whether they are short or longterm, your All-in-One or Compact vision board will embody everything you desire in all 8 key areas of your life. Again, it is important to set your intention for each component you are placing on your vision board.
Physical or Digital Vision Board
With the advent of the internet and our technologically advanced age, vision boards no longer have to be only physical. Vision boards have gone digital! Digital vision boards are created digitally using one of many software such as Microsoft Word, Photoshop, Vision Board, or Paintshop Pro to name a few, which create a space to hold the pieces together. Digital Vision Boards work best for people constantly on the move – whether moving because they have to – for work, or other reasons, digital vision boards will ensure they can view their vision board regardless of where they are. Physical Vision Boards are created using physical boards such as poster board, and cutting relevant pictures, artwork from magazines, articles and securing them on the board using glue adhesives. Physical Vision Boards are for people who are stable without the need to be constantly moving from one city/state/country to the next. You may also create your vision board digitally, and have it enlarged and printed so you can display it in your home or preferred place.
You want to place your vision board(s) conspicuously in relevant places so you can see them as you go throughout your day – working those goals toward your vision. For your bestselling book vision board, place it in your library above your bookcase. For your weight loss vision board, place it in your gym if you have one or gym area so you see it as you walk in. For your ideal man/husband put a pic of him surrounded by the words of all the qualities you want in him in your bedroom. If you do not know him as yet, never seen him but have a vision in your head of him, make sketch of him the best way you can and put him on your wall in your bedroom.
What You Need to Create Your Vision Board
a poster board, cork board or canvas board
a stack of old magazines
scissors
marker(s)
glue, thumbtacks or pins
a photo of yourself (optional)
How to Create a Vision Board
To create your physical vision board, you will need to gather all the things we discussed above in a space you have already set the intention for, and may be playing your favorite inspiring music with your favorite candle and/or incense burning. You want a distraction free space! Cut the images/wordings that represent your vision from the magazines you have gathered. Arrange the pieces you have cut and prepared on your board until they are all in the space and position you want them to be. Then take up each – one at a time, put a dot of glue on the edges and affix to its former position and space – as you set your intention for it. (If some of the pieces are overlapping, be sure to secure the lower ones before the upper ones.) You may also write your personal mantra or a favorite quote on your vision board with a marker. You may choose to include a photo of yourself on your vision board, or not. (Your vision board is unique to you and there is no right or wrong way to construct it.) When you are through, place your vision board in a conspicuous space that is convenient for you to see as often as you go throughout your day.
How to Bring Your Vision to Fruition
Think about your vision for yourself – everyday! Imagine yourself already in receipt of those things and living your life the way you envision with the people, things, and in the place(s) you desire and have setup on your vision board. Having your vision board in a conspicuous place or places, will be a constant reminder of your desires for yourself and give you that extra motivation or reason to continue on your life path to achieving your desires. Our CEO Eugénie Nugent always reminds us to “Allow opportunity to find us ready” and we are encouraging you to do the same. After setting your intention and creating your vision board(s), you must get to work in aligning yourself for your vision to materialize in your life. This means you will be actively pursuing those things you desire – which is your part, so that the Universe can do its part by bringing the missing pieces your way – for full fruition. If one of your vision on your vision board is to have the man/life partner you desire, make it your duty to get out there to places you envision him to be – places you envision you both visiting later on when you are together, and mix and mingle. Do not stay home all day, everyday! You must be actively moving in the direction towards your vision. Leave a space for him in your closet, at your dinner table, and on your bed. Do that, and you will witness the pieces coming into place right before your eyes, and sometimes you will be amazed at how some things happen without you knowing how they will ever be. That’s the power of setting your intentions, doing your part, and allowing the Universe to do its part.
Do Vision Boards Really Work?
Vision boards work! Here is living proof!
R E M E M B E R: The Universe and the Law of Attraction can only work for you if it finds you working on the vision you envision for yourself. That sports car, mansion, and attractive life partner will only come to fruition if you set your intention, align yourself to make them happen, and spend time working on and visualizing those things every day.
So go ahead! Set your intention and create your vision board! Then make your plan, work your plan, and watch your vision come to fruition.

First and foremost, what are bad habits? And what are good habits? While there may be universal codes for good and bad habits, good and bad habits are subjective. They exist based on individual’s perspectives and interpretations. The one thing that is for sure is that bad habits take away from the quality of life you lead and good habits add to the quality of life you lead. So whatever you deem bad and good habits, you want to ensure you break the bad and develop the good.
Understanding How Habits are Formed and Why
Habit formation provides the basis for any activity from the micro to the macro-level. We develop habits – both good and bad – through the repetition of certain behaviors that result in the etching of neural pathways in the mind. These neural pathways are the mind’s way of reducing its overall workload; it’s the way the mind puts things into autopilot.
(Bear with us as we delve into a bit of Psychology in order to help you understand what’s causing the problem, so we can then find the solution.)
Part of what makes us who we are is the interaction that goes on in our minds. Our mind is a very complex system of interacting components and parts. One of the major interactions that occurs within the mind is within the Psychic Apparatus, a term coined by the late Sigmund Freud, the father of modern psychology. This apparatus is made up of three parts. Let’s take a look at each:
The Three Parts of the Psychic Apparatus – The Id, Ego, and Superego
These three parts are working in conjunction with one another to help you make your daily decisions and they’re the basis for the thoughts that you have in both your subconscious and conscious mind. However, the interaction between the three involves some push-and-pull.
The Id
The Id operates on the pleasure principle and it’s a purely subconscious component of the mind. It’s the part that we’re born with. It’s basal; instinctual. It’s what makes us want to eat, defecate, and procreate. It gives us urges that are interlaced with our DNA. But, the Id – if left unchecked, is also the part of us that makes developing new and empowering habits very difficult. The Id basically tells us to indulge in whatever guilty pleasure we might want to indulge in – without any conscious thought to it.
The Superego
On the opposite side of the Id is the Superego. The superego is the part of us that acts as our moral compass. It’s what is developed through our upbringing. Through the guidance of our parents or guardians, our Superegos develop into what helps keep us in check and not “cross the line” – helping to instill guilt in us when we do end up doing something wrong. If you’ve ever indulged in something that you knew you shouldn’t have indulged in, it was your Superego that made you feel guilty afterwards. So, when the Id is urging us to do something based on pleasure, the Superego is urging us to be more cautious.
The Ego
Now, the tug-of-war that goes on between these two components – the Id and the Superego – is r e f e r e e d by the Ego. Yes, the Ego is what helps you to decide which way you’ll go, how you will act. Will you indulge, succumbing to temptations, or will you play it safe and steady, keeping your pleasure instinct in check?
The Ego is also steeped in the reality principle. It wants to give you what you want, but it wants to do it within the confines of your reality. So, if it’s weight loss you’re after, the Ego seeks out some solution that will help you satisfy the instant pleasure of the Id while doing so within reality. This is why so many of us turn to fad weight-loss diets and get-rich-quick schemes. It’s the Ego trying to satisfy the urges of the Id while also giving us what we want.
So, how are we supposed to overcome our natural tendencies to do things we know are detrimental to us, and not do things we know would help empower us?
By Overriding our Internal Psychology
Breaking Bad Habits and Developing Good Habits by Overriding Our Internal Psychology
Developing good habits and breaking bad ones involve first building an awareness towards the self-talk in your mind. Although you can’t hear what goes on in your subconscious mind, you can feel your emotions. Your emotions are the antenna to your mind. When we think of something, and that thought is prevalent and overpowering, we experience a certain set of emotions. By paying close attention to our emotions we can access those prevalent thoughts, and channel those thoughts to serve us in our creation of good habits.
Secondly, start making it a habit to not move or take any action without first giving conscious thought to what you are going to do. This takes discipline, but we have proven here at My Blooming Biz that it can absolutely be done. In fact, most of the women who participate in our personal growth and development programs, confirm that they were successful because they worked at mastering their thought processing and aligning it with the desired actions they want in order to get the results they need for their overall improvement. Knowing what you’re going to do, before physically moving is key in breaking bad habits and forming new ones.
And finally, after working on your awareness and developing the strategy to shift your focus before physically moving, the next important step in building a new habit is remaining consistent on your new path. As with anything else, discarding old habits and instituting new ones will require some discipline – especially in the beginning, as well as persistence to keep following through until you have eliminated the old habit and developed the new. You can create a buzz word for every time you are about to move without thinking. A few of our Power Circle women attested to this actually working for them, and we always recommend using whatever tools work to help us achieve whatever we are pursuing.
Additional Tools to Help Ensure You Follow Through With Breaking the Bad Habits & Employing the Good
1. Focus on one habit at a time.
2. Set a start date and ensure you start then.
3. Set a baseline metric for the incremental change.
4. Seek out an accountability partner, or publicize to your support system.
5. Keep an accountability journal.
6. Use sticky reminders to help you stay the course.
Oftentimes, to develop good habits we not only have to break bad habits, but we also have to override our natural urges to do or not do something. These urges are built into us and make overriding habitual behavior that’s built through years of repetition, incredibly difficult. It’s clear that breaking bad habits and instilling good ones pose an enormous hurdle, but it is totally possible. Documenting your journey and keeping a record, as well as telling others about your quest is a huge motivator. Don’t take these two steps lightly! They work!
So, the important things to remember are: 1) awareness, 2) becoming conscious before physically moving, and 3) remaining consistent. When we don’t have awareness, we’re simply a pawn to the chess game going on in our own minds. We’ll continue to do things without even being aware of it. We’ll light a cigarette without knowing, reach for a candy bar without thinking, turn on the television without even being conscious of the actions – all because these acts are habitually carved into the neural pathways of the mind. Habits are formed; and since this is the case, after a while of consciously and mindfully reforming your habits, your old habits will dissipate and your new habits will be developed.

One of the things we like to do here at MBB, and encourage women to do as well, is to seek out ways to continuously improve ourselves. According to personal development legend Jim Rohn, “to have more than you’ve got, you must become more than you are”. Thus continual personal growth will ensure we always become better than we were – as each day goes by. Personal development includes activities that help you improve your hard and soft skills, cultivate your talents, and tap into your potential so you can improve your overall quality of life. These aren’t one-time activities; they involve a commitment you make to continue to learn and grow in every stage of your life.
Here are 7 Ways The Empowered Woman Invests in Herself
1. The Empowered Woman Takes Classes and Attend Seminars
Learning doesn’t need to stop once you’ve graduated college. Signing up for classes and attending seminars that are of interest to you and serve your higher purpose will give you the opportunity to learn and grow outside of the traditional confines of school. Enroll for workshops or webinars provided by professional organizations you belong to, or personal interest hobby group offering things you enjoy. Websites such as Coursera, Udemy, and Skillshare allow you to learn new skills and improve the ones you already have.
2. The Empowered Woman Reads a Variety of Quality Books
The most successful people carve time out of their days to read. Not only does reading increase your knowledge, it also improves your memory, vocabulary and focus, while sharpening your analytical skills and reducing stress. Get recommendations from friends or co-workers, or check out the best-seller lists from The New York Times or your local bookstore. We also have select books that we have purchased and used here at MBB for women empowerment that we compiled in a series called “Transformational Book Series – Our Picks“.
3. The Empowered Woman Takes Advantage of Mentorship
If you want to get ahead in your career, business, or life, a mentor can help you in a myriad of ways. They can help you: improve your self-confidence, be more definitive about what you want and how to go about getting it, tap into your potential and find ways to uplevel your finances, find balance in your life and many other things. Since they do not have a personal stake in your success, they will provide unbiased feedback as they share their experiences and offer tips and encouragement to help you thrive. Find a mentor through your professional organization or ask someone in your company or industry who models the traits you would like to hone, and/or have achieved the level of success you would like to reach.
4. The Empowered Woman Watch Empowering Videos
Many of us spend our evenings relaxing in front of the television. Optimize your time and watch videos from leading personal development experts, or experts in your field of interest. You’ll not only learn but you will also become motivated to make lasting positive changes in your personal as well as business life. Watch inspirational films that will leave you feeling uplifted and encouraged.
5. The Empowered Woman Listens to Empowering Podcasts
We are living in the age of podcasts, and it is phenomenal! Podcasts are a popular way to listen and learn anywhere, whether you’re getting ready for work, driving to the office, or jogging on the treadmill at the gym. Regardless of where you are, you can be tuned in to an empowering podcast, and continue your process of self improvement. There is a podcast to fit all your needs and interests – whether you want to: keep up on current events, take charge of your finances, take your career or business to the next level, or enhance your spirituality.
6. The Empowered Woman Join Empowerment Groups & Organizations
Empowerment groups and organizations allow you to connect with other like-minded individuals who are committed to growing personally and/or professionally. In addition to networking, these groups and organizations also provide opportunities to take workshops and classes, find mentors, and look for new opportunities in your field. Empowerment groups allow for the forming of relevant relationships and provide a cultivating atmosphere where bonds can be strengthened.
7. The Empowered Woman Volunteer To Help Empower Others
Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community while refining skills and traits, such as team-work, empathy, and communication. In addition to improving existing talents and skills, you may also learn new skills to apply in your line of work or business. If you are starting a new career or have moved to a new area, volunteering allows you to gain experience and expand your network. The most important part of volunteering is experiencing the joy giving back brings. When you look at the way you are impacting others lives, it will give you a renewed sense of purpose which will continue to propel you forward with the amazing plans you have for your life. Serving others not only nurtures positive feelings, it also lowers the risk of depression and reduces stress.
Investing in yourself is in essence, empowering yourself, and a huge part of what enables us to live the lifestyle we desire and deserve – “the empowered woman lifestyle”. We believe that every woman should live an empowered life, with just the right design for her, and the best way to do that is to continuously invest in yourself – “sharpen your saw” as Stephen R. Covey terms it in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Our programs and workshops are designed to help ambitious women equip themselves with the right tools and use them to catapult them to living their best lives possible.

In January we kicked off a new MBB series to highlight transformational books for women called, Transformational Book Series – Our Picks. This month we’re excited to continue the series by sharing with you our next transformational book in the series, Influence by Robert B. Cialdini.
In his book, Robert Cialdini explains how the “weapons of influence” are used on us in a variety of ways. In a scholarly sometimes amusing tone, he broke down the way humans are persuaded, into very understandable form with his backing of social scientific testing and retesting. In essence, the six universal principles of persuasion – reciprocation, commitment & consistency, social proof, liking, authority, and scarcity are the cornerstones from which all persuasive tactics are derived. This book explains how to understand and defend against these pervasive, non-rational influences on our decision-making. One key component that really hits us, is how powerful the deference of authority is, and the cognitive dissonance that it elicits in humans.
Here is a closer look at those 6 ways:
1. Reciprocity – People tend to return a favor, thus the pervasiveness of free samples in marketing. In his conferences, he often uses the example of Ethiopia providing thousands of dollars in humanitarian aid to Mexico just after the 1985 earthquake, despite Ethiopia suffering from a crippling famine and civil war at the time. Ethiopia had been reciprocating for the diplomatic support Mexico provided when Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1935. The good cop/bad cop strategy is also based on this principle.
2. Commitment and Consistency – If people commit, orally or in writing, to an idea or goal, they are more likely to honor that commitment because of establishing that idea or goal as being congruent with their self-image. Even if the original incentive or motivation is removed after they have already agreed, they will continue to honor the agreement. Cialdini notes Chinese brainwashing of American prisoners of war to rewrite their self-image and gain automatic unenforced compliance. Another example is marketers making you close popups by saying “I’m signing up” or “No thanks, I prefer not to make more money”. This is a huge one!
3. Social Proof – People will do things that they see other people are doing. For example, in one experiment, one or more confederates would look up into the sky; bystanders would then look up into the sky to see what they were seeing. At one point this experiment aborted, as so many people were looking up that they stopped traffic. Conformity, ah!
4. Authority – People will tend to obey authority figures, even if they are asked to perform objectionable acts. Cialdini cites incidents such as the Milgram experiments in the early 1960s and the My Lai Massacre. This one can literally get you killed!
5. Liking – People are easily persuaded by other people that they like. Cialdini cites the marketing of Tupperware in what might now be called viral marketing. People were more likely to buy if they liked the person selling it to them. Some of the many biases favoring more attractive people are discussed. Physical attractiveness and stereotypes, ah!
6. Scarcity – Perceived scarcity will generate demand. For example, saying offers are available for a “limited time only” encourages sales. This really does work!
The trick is that as the world gets more complex, these 6 things also provide us with social shortcuts, to keep on the straight and narrow with minimal effort. But this also means we have to be vigilant – to make sure we are not being taken advantage of. He notes that we often get that funny feeling in the pit of our stomach when we are being manipulated against our will, and he suggests using that feeling/intuition to our advantage – to recognize when we are at risk. One of the things we especially like about this book is that Cialdini himself is the first to admit that even with all that he knows, even he is not immune to the tricks that are often used, and he provides some very funny examples to show how he personally has been taken advantage of.
This book had to be chosen this early to be in our transformational book picks because it will do just that to you. It will transform you, as it did us here at MBB! It will transform the way you seek to influence others as well as be more aware of the ways in which others can influence you – not necessarily negatively, but in ways that serve them and not you.
This book is revealing! There are lessons in this book that could literally save your life, and your pocket! In addition, this book will not only help you become a skilled persuader, but it will also prepare you to identify when they are being used against you and thus be able to defend yourself against them.
Robert B. Cialdini is a genius, and this book is a jewel. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what you do, this book has something for you. More than using this information for your monetary gain, get this book and study it so you will not fall victim to any of these “tricks.” You may have already fallen for a few, like some of us have here at MBB, but this book will ensure you do not fall for anymore of them.
Get this book Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion, Revised Edition, read it, and guard yourself against the travesties and tricks that are used everyday, and mostly for bad.
